Tantra is a spiritual system that has been evolving over many millennia. The word “Tantra” is Sanskrit, and is translated both as “to weave” and “expansion”. In a sense, the Tantric path is about experiencing one’s Self as part of an infinitely expanding universe in which everything is connected or woven together. What is unique about Tantra as a spiritual path is that it looks to everyday life experiences as opportunities to expand into this consciousness. Desire, sexual energy and intimate union with a lover are seen as tools that can be used in the development of one’s spiritual life. In this practice, then, the body is truly a temple, and worship can take place in new and delightful ways.

Though the word Tantra comes out of a specific language and set of cultural contexts, practices and rituals that celebrate the union of sexuality and spirituality are not unique to a specific cultural milieu. Similar practices and philosophies can be found in wisdom traditions throughout the world including Sufism, Taoism, Ancient Egyptian spiritual traditions, the Mystery traditions of the Cherokee nation, as well as the Dagara tribe in Africa, and the Ancient Celts. While many of us who have grown up in a predominantly Judeo-Christian context might be more inclined to think of sex and the body as having nothing to do with spiritual growth, there are many traditions that actually invoke the wisdom of the body in the search for and celebration of Spirit.

Here in the West, when you hear the word Tantra, practitioners are usually talking about a combination of practices that evolved out of some of these more ancient traditions combined with contemporary psychological and sexological approaches to effective, compassionate communication, conscious relationship-building, boundaries, self-esteem, sexual healing and passionate whole-body loving.

The practical results of this path are many. We learn how to deepen and enhance our intimate relationships. We live more deeply and fully in our bodies, and often we heal sexual trauma. Our capacity for joy and pleasure is expanded, and both women and men report learning to access extended states of orgasmic bliss, full-body orgasms and multi-orgasmic states. Ultimately, as Margot Anand describes, “sexuality is transformed into a profound and ecstatic spiritual experience.”

Tantra can provide you with a new lens through which to understand, experience and transform your sensual self...opening the door to a much more expansive realm of experience.

What this means in terms of your time with me is that I bring an ability to connect with you in a deeply authentic way. This is a place where you get to let go completely. Many of my clients report that coming to me is like coming home to Self. This is the gift that Tantra brings. Of course it is up to you to see for yourself.
